Frequently Asked QuestionsFind answers below to the following frequently asked questions about the Great Australian Bushwalk. All walkers should also check out our handy Walker's Checklist before the day.
When are the walks held? This year all GAB walks will be held on Sunday 14 September 2008. Guided walks will be on offer across Australia to celebrate the event. How do I find the walk for me?Click on the ‘Walks and Registration' Page. You will then be given the choice of registering for a walk in the Sydney Harbour National Park, be able to view other walks in NSW or click on links for other available walks across Australia. What do the walk gradings mean?A Walk Grading is provided for each walk, from Easy to Hard. These gradings are a general guide as to the physical challenges and terrain to be covered on the walk, from the perspective of a new walker. The grading should not be taken as a definitive measure of the walk’s challenges, because each individual person has a slightly different sense of what an ‘Easy’ or ‘Hard’ walk may entail. Use the grading in conjunction with the other information provided on the walk, to choose the walk that best suits you. If you have any questions or concerns relating to your participation on the Great Australian Bushwalk, please feel free to contact your walk leader or the event’s National Office at info@greataustralianbushwalk.org.au How do I register? This depends on the walk you wish to participate in. For the walk in the Sydney Harbour National Park from Taronga Zoo to Balmoral you should register directly on this site through the Walks & Registration page. For all other walks both in NSW and across the country you should contact the walk leader or organiser directly. By registering you are securing a place on the walk, plus helping us to organise the walk properly. Why do walkers under 18 years of age need to be accompanied by an adult on the GAB bushwalks? All walkers under 18 years of age must be accompanied on their walk by a responsible adult, because GAB walk leaders cannot take responsibility for the care of minors. How do I get to and from the walks? For the Taronga to Balmoral walk the starting point will be from Taronga Zoo itself. There is limited car parking availability at the beginning of the walk and at various points along the route. We recommend though the use of public transport to get to and from the walk. Public transport options are available by phoning the Public Transport Info Line on 131 500 or www.131500.com. The starting times for the Taronga to Balmoral walk will run in conjunction with the arrival times of the ferry from Circular Quay. With regards the other walks listed both within NSW and around the country you should contact the relevant listed walk organiser directly. |
